The Uncertain Bodies and Spaces of Aging in Place

113 In the United States since the 1980s, there has been a growing political and social imperative for “aging in place.” However, the value, experience, and processes involved in remaining at home for the elderly have not been sufficiently investigated, particularly in this time of economic insecurity, scale backs in social services, and uncertainty about entitlement reform. Aging in place is a period of change and the work, adaptations, and resources required to support and enable remaining at home can be fraught with complications.
